Why is recording my loved ones in audio or video better than writing down their stories?

Recording your loved ones' stories in audio or video captures more than just words—it preserves their voice, emotions, and personality in a way writing can't. When they share their memories out loud, their laughter, pauses, and expressions bring their stories to life. You get to hear their unique way of telling a story, their intonations, and even the unexpected moments that unfold naturally in conversation.

With audio or video, future generations will not only learn about their experiences but also feel connected to who they were as people—their humor, their quirks, and their warmth. It’s an opportunity to experience their presence again, long after the stories have been told. In comparison, written stories may capture the facts, but they often miss the emotional depth and personal nuances that audio and video can offer.

Our Story

Staci Lammering lost her father in December 2013. The following Christmas, her husband, Bryan Ray, gave her family an unforgettable gift: an interview with her mother, capturing her life story, from her earliest memory to the present moment. It was a natural fit—Bryan, a record producer with a fully operational recording studio, knew there was no better way to preserve someone's legacy than by recording their story in their own words, in their own voice.

As Staci listened to the interview, she realized just how precious it was—a treasure trove of memories, captured in the voice and mannerisms of the woman who raised her. She would’ve given anything to have her father’s life story recorded, to truly know the man he was beyond the memories she held.

Inspired, Bryan began interviewing his own parents, cousins, and friends. With each interview, both he and Staci recognized how invaluable this gift truly is—preserving the stories and voices of loved ones for future generations—and how much others deserve this same opportunity to cherish and pass down their family's history.
